8:15 Out. Sybil’s mother gave us a ride.
8:30 Train station. Bought two day-passes valid for most trains and buses in Switzerland as long as I was travelling with an annual pass holder. CHF 60.
8:35 Coop. Bought a choco-croissant. It tasted really good. CHF 1.80.
8:40 On the train.
8:53 Zurich station.
8:58 Platform. Transferred.
9:01 Train started. It was crowded.
9:10 Ticket check.
9:40 Ticket check again.
10:00 Mountains and snow started to appear.
11:25 Bellinzona, an Italian-speaking city in Switzerland. The houses had lots of yellow, and the scene felt quite different (more luxurious?) from Strasbourg/Colmar.
11:40 Castelgrande, a fortress built in 15th century. It was very clean and well-maintained. There was an elevator going up to the top of the fortress, which was neat. At the top there was a restaurant and green fields with students running around and having lunch.
12:20 Walked down. It didn’t take too long.
12:30 After walking around the city for a bit, went into Caffe Chicco D’oro. They didn’t have a menu, and the waitress told us what was available. I ordered a piadina (with tomato, mozarella, ketchup, mayo) and a drink called Gazosa. They were both good. CHF 13.20.
13:45 Back in Bellinzano station.
14:05 On a train to Lugano.
14:08 Train started.
14:35 Lugano. It was somewhat similar to Bellinzona, but there were more tourists, the lake was pretty, and it was a lot more hilly.
14:45 Met a friend of Sybil’s, Rocco.
14:55 Gelato near a park. CHF 3.
15:00 It started raining, so we walked into a public library. We were told to be quiet because we were talking too loud.
15:25 Out. We walked around the lake for a while.
16:00 Rented a boat (one of those with pedals). The sky was clear, and the view from the lake was gorgeous.
16:45 Said farewell to Rocco, and Sybil and I walked around for some more.
17:00 Rested at a bench near the lake.
17:30 Started toward the train station.
17:58 On the train. Apparently there was a new tunnel being built for the trains, with the length of whopping 57 km.
20:50 Zurich station.
21:07 Train started.
21:20 Glattburg station.
21:30 Back at Sybil’s.
22:20 There was a party going on for Sybil’s sister, so I ended up having a glass of cocktail, Belgian pizza, focaccia, parmesan cheese, and German beer.
