Kyoto Fish Market – Nishiki Market

The fish market had a lot of interesting, some bizarre, things. It was easy to navigate because it was pretty much a very long, single street inside a mall.

I saw lots of fermented seafood and vegetables, especially near the entrance. It was crowded everywhere.

I only had tamagoyaki (egg roll) here. It was JPY 120 (~ USD 1) and I stood beside the store and ate with other people who were doing the same. I heard people don’t walk around and eat in Japan.

Tamagoyaki was really good and interesting! It wasn’t sweet, but rather salty and savoury. It was incredibly soft, almost like steamed egg.

I was expecting lots of street food item but it wasn’t the case here. A lot of food being sold seemed very authentic and almost too scary for me to try. It was really crowded overall so I kind of wanted to get out in the end. Food wise I had much better experience in Tsukiji market in Tokyo, which I will write about later.

    Yeah how crazy!! I expected more street food too – but it was such an authentic experience!!

      Oh I agree. Tsukiji market in Tokyo felt very touristy in contrast.
