Satay Street opens on the street next to Lau Pa Sat Hawker Centre, located close to Downtown MRT station. Lau Pa Sat was easily recognizable thanks to its unique octagonal shape.
There were many stalls and the most popular (at least among Korean bloggers) was #8. I sat next to it and somebody soon came by to take my order.
After about 10 minutes, I received my shrimp skewers. They were huge! It was partially de-shelled, which was great. It was slightly salty and the shrimp was fresh.
There were people dressed up in blue taking order for beer separately. I ordered one and received a cup soon. It was refreshing, and of course went really well with the skewers.
It was drizzling a little bit so they told me I could go into the hawker centre and they would be happy to bring over food. I decided to stay in the open since I wasn’t going to stay for long. I received beef and chicken skewers and peanut sauce soon after.
The beef skewers were quite sweet and tasted strongly of soy sauce. Chicken skewers were less sweet and tasted smoky. Overall I liked the chicken skewers better. The peanut sauce was slightly spicy and tasted a little overpowering, so I ended up skipping it most of the time.
I paid while I was eating so that was a little hectic, but I guess it’s expected since it was more of street food.
The food was great, and skewers and beer made a great late night meal. If I were to go back I would probably choose a day when it doesn’t rain.
